The 7mm-08 Remington is a direct comparison to the 1958 Wildcat know as the 7mm/308 hence the name. It is a .308 Win case necked down to .284 then lengthen just a tad. This cartridge is finding its place in the long-range target shooting and hunting world for a few different reasons. It has longer range than the .308 Win with less recoil. This round is most common as a hunting round for medium sized game. The 7mm-08 Remington Match Grade Cartridge is manufactured on Peterson Cartridge’s new, state-of-the-art case line which uses cutting-edge technology to produce some of the most precise and consistent casings on the market. Peterson Cartridge Co is committed to producing Match-Grade Brass that enables our customers to get more reloads per casing than industry average. History At Peterson Cartridge we had an employee named Clint who has since passed away. Clint’s go-to rifle was a 7mm – 08 Remington. We already had the tool pack to make .308 Win which is the parent case of 7mm – 08. So to get Clint some Peterson brass for his 7mm – 08 we decided to make this caliber. The tool pack to make a new caliber can require up to 60 pieces of “touch tooling” and up to another 40 pieces of “material handling” tooling. But if you want to make a new caliber in a family you already have tooling for, it can require far less new tooling. So without the need for a lot of engineering time or experimental tooling we were pretty quickly able to produce the tool pack to make 7mm – 08. In spite of that, just before we had our first production run Clint passed away. Making a new caliber for the first time is normally a cause for celebration around here. But in this instance it was bitter sweet. Clint was a good guy, well-liked by his co-workers. Now whenever we take a 7mm – 08 into the gun range or out into the field, it conjures up fond memories of our friend Clint. Additional Information Warning: Only use Peterson Cartridge Co. casings in firearms in good condition, designed, marked, and chambered for this cartridge. Do not use Peterson Cartridge Co casings for “fire forming” or any other purpose other than what they were designed and tested for.
